“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me." (Galatians 2:20)
Many believers (and non-believers) wrestle with this tension: If I’m already saved, why does my daily life still matter so much? The answer is simple and profound. Salvation is not just something that happened to you, it’s something now happening in you. Paul summed this up perfectly when he said:
"Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure." (Philippians 2:12-13)
The Christian life was never meant to be hidden or passive. When Christ takes residence in your heart, He doesn’t come only to forgive, He comes to transform. Paul didn’t say, “I used to live for Christ.” He said, “Christ lives in me.” That means Jesus is not just your Savior, He is your present power. His life is now being lived through yours.
Salvation changes your destination. But sanctification changes your direction. That’s why Scripture talks so much about fruit. Not to earn salvation, but to show as evidence that something alive is growing inside you.
Jesus said:
“By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.” (John 15:8)
The fruit of the Spirit isn’t performance. It’s production. You don’t grow fruit by forcing branches to strain harder. Fruit grows naturally when a branch stays connected to the vine. In the same way, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control are not made by effort alone. Instead, they are the result of abiding in Christ.
If your faith is real, it will eventually become visible.
Not perfect.
Not instant.
But evident.
A changed heart will always lead to a changing life.
Reflection Questions
Take a moment to pray and reflect:
In what areas of life does the Holy Spirit's work show most clearly in me right now?
Where am I be resisting the Spirit’s transforming work?
How can I be more intentional with abiding so that the fruit of the Spirit becomes more evident in my life?
Prayer
Father,
Thank You for saving me by grace and giving me new life through Your Son. Help me to live in a way that reflects who You are and what You’ve done in me. Grow Your fruit in my heart. Make Your presence evident in my words, my actions, and in my relationships. May my life make Jesus visible to those around me.
In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
Walking It Out This Week
This week, don’t ask, “Am I doing enough?”Ask, “Am I abiding deeply?”
Stay connected to Jesus through quiet time, prayer, and Scripture. Trust Him to grow what only He can produce.
Closing Scripture
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” (Galatians 5:22–23)
